Off-Roading and Your Auto Glass: How to Protect It from Damage

Simple checks before and after an off-road trip, and what to do if your windshield or windows are damaged.

Before you head out

Check your windshield and windows for existing chips, cracks, and loose or damaged trim. Have visible damage assessed before a trip instead of assuming it will stay the same.

Reduce exposure to debris

Leave space behind other vehicles and adjust your speed to the trail conditions. Avoid following closely when tires are throwing loose stones. These precautions can reduce exposure, but no glass is damage-proof.

Check the glass after your trip

Clean the windows and look for new damage. Photograph any chip or crack so you can explain its location when requesting a quote.

Get the right repair advice

Some windshield chips may qualify for chip repair; others require windshield replacement. Damaged door or rear glass needs a separate assessment. Tell us your vehicle year, make, model, and the glass involved.
