Put safety first
Address any injuries or immediate hazards first. Do not drive if damaged glass blocks your view or the vehicle is unsafe. Glass replacement alone does not establish that a collision-damaged vehicle is ready to drive.
Document the damage
When it is safe, photograph the affected windshield, door windows, or back glass. Note the location of the damage and any other visible collision damage.
Check your coverage
Ask your insurer whether your policy covers the damage, what deductible applies, and whether you need approval before work begins. Coverage varies by policy.
Arrange an assessment and quote
Provide the vehicle year, make, model, and damaged glass location. Mention cameras, sensors, defrosters, or antennas associated with the glass. A technician can assess whether repair or replacement is appropriate and explain any related work required.
